About The Artist
The human condition and the environment play a major role in the work of young Anil Ijeri, a Bhopal based artist. Extending the medium of printmaking into painting as his medium of expression, he seeks answers to questions related to his surroundings. His works explore his experiences and conclusions, depicting the now and the hereafter. Four elements of the human anatomy- male, nature, geometry and technology come together in his paintings to show his understanding of the world that he inhabits. Technology surrounds us and as we become overwhelmingly dependant on it, there is a fear of losing our human-ness and becoming more machine like. It is this aspect that Ijeri wants to explore. He is also intrigued by the concept of the mind as brain images appear repeatedly in his work to emphasise his understanding and perspective, both internal and external. He literally places himself in his work, by first photographing himself in the required position and then using these as drawings in his compositions on a two dimensional base. Elements from nature such as trees, roots, clouds, sky, animals, scorpions and their sting are used to express his emotions of calm or anguish.
